'Ngirungiru and Mānuka' (South Island tomtit) limited edition print

NZ$140.00

The South Island tomtit (ngirungiru) is a native NZ songbird. This artwork was drawn with permission from a reference photo by talented Wellington photographer Holly Neill, who captured it at the picturesque Blue Pools, just outside of Wānaka. Hannah also referenced photos she took herself of mānuka. Tomtit are widely distributed around NZ and there are five subspecies - North Island, South Island, Chatham Island, Snares, and Auckland Island tomtit. There are various differences between the subspecies, and the main differences between the South Island male and female, is the male (drawn) has a black head, back and wings, and a bright yellow chest, and the female is more muted, with a brown/grey head, back and wings, and a pale yellow chest. Tomtit are a small bird, typically only 11 grams and 13cm tall, and have a large head compared to their body, making them incredibly cute. They forage in all areas of the forest, whether it be high in the canopy or on the forest floor, scanning for small invertebrates like moths, flies, spiders, weta and the occasional small piece of fruit. One of their notable behaviours is their inquisitiveness and fearlessness to humans, much like the NZ robin.

Limited edition fine art giclée print produced in New Zealand using the highest quality archival paper, inks and processes. Each print is hand signed and numbered by Hannah.
