'Talkative Tomtit' (tomtit/miromiro) limited edition print

from NZ$140.00

Predator-free islands are one of the most effective tools in the NZ conservation tool kit; these important safe havens are created for our birds by removing predators such as rats, stoats and possums. One such island is Moturua Island, in the Bay of Islands. Just a short boat road from the historic township of Russell, it is open to the public to walk around and enjoy the beautiful nature and birds. Hannah took the tomtit reference photo for this artwork there, as well as photos of many other native birds which inhabit the island, such as saddleback and NZ dotterel. The conservation work on this island is undertaken by ‘Project Island Song’, which is a collaboration between the local community group the Guardians of the Bay of Islands, Te Rawhiti hapū (Ngati Kuta and Patukeha), and the Department of Conservation.

The plant which the tomtit is drawn perched on is a clematis (puawananga), which is a native NZ plant with spectacular clusters of bright white flowers. There are many varieties of Clematis, however this one is a male paniculata.

The artwork name ‘talkative tomtit’ derives from their bird song, and that they are relatively comfortable being in close proximity to people.

Limited edition fine art giclée print produced in New Zealand using the highest quality archival paper, inks and processes. Each print is hand signed and numbered by Hannah.
